May I give you some advice?

While doing the Crow Pose in Yoga…

This is not me!!! But while attempting this pose, please note the word attempting, our delightful instructor reminded us of our intention for the day which was working through fear. She then told us about her fear as a child. Like so many young girls she was always concerned and fearful about what other people thought of her. She confided this fear to her grandmother. Her grandmother told her it was none of her damn business! I love the simplicity and merit to this advice. This has stuck with her all of her life and it got me thinking about all the sage advice I have gotten from my grandmother and mother.

My Grandmother: When the neighborhood boys refused to play with me she said, “Some day you’ll have to carry a big stick!” At 6 I didn’t understand the meaning and wondered why I would want to beat them with a stick as they already didn’t want to be around me?

My Mother: “Get a good education, don’t rely on you looks, make your own money and don’t get married!” Sorry about the last one Mom. Made it to 37 though! And, we know how much you love Richard.

Now that I have shared with you,  I hope you will take a moment and share some guiding advice with me.

Just Zip It!

Did you know The Duchess of Windsor designed….

In the 1930s, The Duchess thought the Zipper would make an interesting design for a necklace. Her design was called The Zip and became a rage in England. Later in the 1950s, Van Cleef and Arpels made this design with beautiful diamonds, rubies and various precious stones. I was fresh out of diamonds so I chose faux pearls and shells instead!

Zipper
Did you know the Zipper was invented in 1851 by Elias Howe, founder of the sewing machine?  It flopped and was re-engineered 44 years later by Whitcomb Judson of Street Car fame.

Dad of Twisted Sister?

I am home visiting my family and of course I am making Jewelry with my mom and my dear friend Sandy. My 89 year old Dad, Bob hates to be left out! He sits down and I teach him to make a Twisted Sister.  Can you believe it!!!!! He is modeling his handiwork.  I guess it is now a family affair????

I’ve been texted???

I have several friends that are in my age neighborhood…

that are doing the online dating thingy. Honestly, I would rather scrape paint but the one thing that is universally complained about is texting. No one talks on the phone anymore. It’s like my niece, Erica, said to me a couple of years back. “Aunt Carol, everyone knows you’re old.” I beg your pardon? “Only old people leave messages. I know you called.” Humph! So, those of you that have been with me awhile know how my brain works… I got to thinking about texting and that lead me to texture. Sorry, it’s messy in my head!
Last week I told you I was into fiber but I realized that wasn’t really correct. It’s texture that attracts me. Think about the Twisted Sister Technique. It’s all about using hundreds of beads etc. I was exploring texture when I stumbled on to Viktor & Rolf Couture. OMG! Have a peak and I hope you’ll enjoy the video.

The Twist Takes a Tasty Turn!

As some of you know….

In addition to my beading and jewelry shenanigans, I teach a cooking class called From Costco to the Elegant Table. It is a very fun class where I show you how to take Costco items that have already been prepared and elevate them to the gourmet dinner party level. Many of my students have asked me if they could buy all the recipes from my previous classes. I have just completed Part 1 of my series of recipes.

From Costco Cover Martini

Part 1 includes 5 of my most popular recipes from the last 3 years. There is something for everyone. I promise, you will never consider making these dishes from scratch again. This is an instant digital download with beautiful pictures and the exact locations of where to find the items at Costco. I hope you will enjoy these recipes as much as I do. They really are yummy and PAINLESSLY easy. The time alone you will save justifies the price AND your friends and family will marvel at your new found creativity! Click HERE!
Check back in a few weeks for Part 2.

Maybe this explains my Goofiness!
Beauty Tip – Use your hair dryer to heat your eyelash curler for 20  seconds on medium heat than curl your lashes and apply mascara.  Lordy! Curl last for 2-3 days!

Who is going to believe me now?

I never consider myself a shiny object chaser….

but now I think I need to reconsider. But while I was reconsidering, I stumbled onto something even more disturbing. (Not for You but for Me!) In my last blog, I mentioned that I ordered sari ribbon not because I needed it but because I have issues with using things up. All weekend, I have been creating and designing new necklaces using sari. Lot’s of fun! I had just finished a really wild piece (Wild For Me!) when I get this blog post about Dsquared2 2016 Collection. I had never heard of Dsquared. Have you? This picture floats by:

Dsquared2

So what’s the big deal? Well, I just finished making a necklace that is VERY similar and I think to myself no one is going to believe that didn’t copy this idea. We all know I have copied lots of Chanel designs and I never tried to hide it. But it’s kind of like lying.  Once you’re caught lying anything you say is suspect. Enough with the suspense.  Here is the necklace Dsquared2 knocked off!!!! Believe it or not!
